Many years ago, a client insisted on keeping both his wedding ring and that of his wife. He argued for hours over this, costing him time and money. I finally asked him how much he had paid for the rings, thinking that I could offset the rings with some other item of property. "Fifty dollars each," came the answer. I told him -- "Give me the d*** rings!" I gave the wife's attorney her ring, took $50 off the bill and told my client to stop being so petty!
The moral of the story: Don't fight over fifty dollar rings. Take a long hard look at your personal property, and only argue over that which is truly not replaceable. As to the other items, find a way to compromise.
Let your attorney know which items you truly cannot surrender, and as to the rest, let your attorney guide you in what is fair and not unconscionable. You can replace stuff. The time, money and energy spent fighting over it can never be regained.
